Joseph M. Inwald, JD, CPCU
Joseph M. Inwald is a seasoned expert witness and insurance consultant with experience in insurance risk transfer, broker and insurer selections, and performance assessments. Joseph’s career began working as an associate attorney specializing in corporate and health law on behalf of health maintenance organizations, preferred provider organizations, hospitals, nursing homes, professional associations, and individual practitioners. He then gained significant insurance brokerage experience overseeing the managed care unit at a boutique healthcare brokerage organization, as well as handling account development, management, and commercial excess insurance marketing responsibilities as assistant vice president of the Health Group at Johnson & Higgins, one of the nation’s largest insurance brokerage firms prior to its sale to Marsh & McLennan.
Joseph has nearly 20 years of experience as a consultant working on healthcare and insurance organizational design, program development, product development, strategic relationships, and expert reviews. He also performs property and casualty insurance broker and insurer performance reviews and provides ongoing support of risk management programs.

Joseph also has insurance industry executive experience, including serving as vice president of insurance product development at Franklin Health Inc., where he was responsible for relationship management with AMRE/Munich RE and led the team responsible for finding insurance opportunities for Franklin’s traditional complex care management, as well as Internet offering. He also was vice president of product development of Medical Inter Insurance Exchange (MIIX), where he created second-generation health provider packaged products and developed joint venture model institutional fraud and abuse service and risk transfer programs.
Joseph earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and his law degree at the University of Michigan Law School. He completed additional coursework at the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business, Cornell University, and the University of Colorado Boulder, and received a CPCU (chartered property casualty underwriter) designation earned in 1990.
Joseph is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and the State Bar of Florida. He is currently, or was previously, active with a number of professional associations, including the American Health Lawyers Association, the Professional Liability Underwriting Society, and the American Academy of Hospital Attorneys. He has served a guest lecturer for health law at Wayne State University School of Law, and as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Detroit Mercy College of Business Administration.
